There are a lot of aftermarket parts that we install for our customer’s here at Lead Foot Diesel Performance. Some of them just make things look a little nicer under the hood, but most of these aftermarket parts serve a purpose. They fix a poorly designed stock part that is prone to failure.
Recently I cracked my 3rd stock Ford radiator on my 2004 6.0L racing against a buddy. It’s no fun winning a race when the person behind you jumps out and cusses you out because you covered their clean truck in coolant… it takes the fun out of the situation pretty quick. I knew at that moment I would not be putting another stock replacement in my truck, I needed an upgrade. I jumped on the internet and simply searched for an all aluminum radiator that would fit my application.
Cracked Stock Radiator

To my pleasant surprise several results popped up, but the first to catch my eye was the Mishimoto radiator, maybe it was the cool name, or maybe it was the phenomenal quality that I saw in not only the pictures of their product but also their web site. I found out that one of the distributors I order parts from every single day for the shop, was a Mishimoto distributor as well. I ordered one right away and it arrived 3 days later.
The fitment was flawless and the quality was even better than the pictures made it look. I had the old radiator out in a couple of minutes and the new Mishimoto Radiators unit installed in less than a half hour. Two wrenches and a pair of pliers were the only tools needed, I even did the installation out in the gravel parking lot to show you how easy it really was.
I noticed quite a bit of rust in the old radiator, and I didn’t want to get any of that corrosion in my new radiator. So we flushed the cooling system and also installed the Sinister Diesel coolant filtration kit while we were at it. If you have any questions about Mishimoto radiators, or the installation process feel free to give me a call at the shop. This truly is the last radiator I will ever by for any of my diesel trucks. I have another one ordered for our 1000 horse power Duramax Sled Pulling truck. I will post more pictures and another review for that application as soon as the radiator gets here!
